Bought this bed for my five year-old. The materials are sturdy, fairly easy to build. The hardware is strong, and some thought was put into the looks, as there was hardware included to hide the unused holes. There are extra holes based on which orientation you want to build the bed (i.e. opening of the ladder to the left or to the right.). The built-in desk is probably too small for a larger child, but for a 5 year old, it's big enough for his books and some toys. The space below is big enough for a reading nook, if you use floor cushions or perhaps a bean bag. We got my kid a reading light to go under there along with some Christmas lights, and he loves to crawl under there and read. All in all, he enjoys the taller bed and has no issues climbing up and down, although the ladder could be better spaced together, but it wouldn't be an issue for a larger child.

Beds are just what we needed for our kids rooms. They love that they have a little play area underneath and the ladder is easy for them to use and not hard on the feet. We had a small issue with one of the beds not having the right slats but they are sending new ones; so I am happy. Would definitely recommend.
