The scalloped lip provides extra gripping stability! The only issue I had was… which set of mixing bowls to purchase! I LOVE THESE BOWLS AND USE THEM DAILY!!! Chefs kiss

Cute but the photo is WRONG. Check your bowls. You will NOT get the rabbit pattern on the small bowl, it will be a bear. You'll go back and forth with Wayfair about this and they'll end up saying the manufacturer says the bear is the correct pattern for the small bowl. Doesn't matter that the picture here, plus the picture for every other online retailer, shows a rabbit. You won't get that bowl as part of this set. It's a shame, they seem like such good and sturdy bowls.

I got this packed in a box with no padding at the bottom and all of the padding was on top of the bowls. There were shards of broken bowl everywhere. Two of the three bowls were broken.
