F. Elizabeth Douglass has been painting professionally for the last sixteen years. She received her Art Degree from Auburn University and has studied at The Scottsdale Artist School in Arizona and The University per Stranierei in Perugia, Italy.
F. Elizabeth largely works with acrylic paints on a range of materials. āI prefer acrylics because it can be combined with a lot of water to achieve the movement and spontaneity that I want in all of my work.ā Her subjects range from natural scenes and figures to abstracts. āI donāt want to be pigeonholed as a specific ākindā of painter. I love all aspects of art and I am continually looking for and learning new concepts, techniques and styles.ā
Hailing from segregation era Birmingham, Alabama, the civil rights movement of the 60ās formed her core belief: āā¦ there are many beautiful colours in this world, we must appreciate them equally.ā The Deep South still holds a powerful attraction for the artist, drawing her back to her roots time and again.
Elizabeth counts Monet as an influence for his play of light and washes of colour in addition to Watercolorist Dean Mitchell and John S. Sargent and the soft marine scapes of Homer.
