Perhaps named for Hesperus, the Evening Star, under which these clandestine lovers meet, this work is kissed with a beautiful melancholy and with dusk's warm embrace. Scottish artist Paton painted historical, allegorical and religious subjects, all of which earned him much acclaim, an honorary degree and knighthood. The authentic stretched canvas replica captures the original painting's texture, depth of colour, and even its brushstrokes, which are applied by hand. It is surrounded by an imported, antique gold-toned, delicately sculpted 4" wide designer resin frame with a leaf motif. Proudly printed and framed in the USA using imported moulding.
