Figurine Sidley

It is a challenge to find the right words to describe my feelings about this purchase. I am a reptile fan, snakes in particular. This is not produced in some factory in China but hand carved by an artist in Indonesia. The time it must have taken to simply carve the suar wood into the sinuous and graceful shape of the coiled serpent with the open mouth and fangs is mind boggling. It is carved out of one piece of wood; no sections glued together. But then, painstakingly hand carving tiny little "scales", each exactly the same shape and size, takes this creation into the stratosphere. Some of my friends and family don't like Sidley because they are afraid of snakes. Ancient Chinese artists created spectacular dragons. Huge Gargoyles are mounted on the corners of Notre Dame in Paris and serve as waterspouts. The creatures depicted as not cute, fuzzy puppies and were never intended to be in the first place. Sidley Serpent would be right at home in any museum in the world. If you appreciate true art and craftsmanship at the highest level, buy Sidley. Take good care of him. Once a month, take a small paintbrush, dip it into food grade mineral oil and coat the carving very generously. Give the process a few hours to absorb into the suar wood, then take paper towels, press them into the crevices to soak up any oil that remains. This prevents the suar wood from cracking or splitting. I cannot speak highly enough about this Serpent; it is astonishing and beautiful.
