Love these! Hadn't been able to find various sizes of these jars for a couple years. I use them for fermenting - sauerkraut, Indian preserved lemons, Moroccan preserved lemons and limes, vegetable mix... I've even used the 2.5 gallon jar from this set for making Chinese red rice wine. Love them. They're sturdy. Use the Stone Creek Trading glass crock weights - 5.5" diameter is the right size for this, unless you fill to the neck (risk of overflow), in which case the 4.5" diameter works well. Sometimes I unscrew the handle bolt and take out the plastic insert, just resting the metal lid on top with the central hole open (handle pull removed) for protection. Alternately, muslin cloth and a rubber band work very well for protection from dust, etc.

This did not work out for me. I love the jar and the lid but wanted a plain jar as it is listed. However, they sent me a jar that had SUGAR already stamped in black on it. Since I am not using it for sugar I have to send it back.

I love my Montana Jars. I have them in several sizes. The lids fit nice snug and the glass is very thick. On this order though I did not realize it had the word “sugar” on it ( see second image which I failed to look at). Have to return as when I put the label up to the jar you can see the word sugar under it. 5 stars for the product. 2 stars for product listing SUGAR should be in the description and the first image should be of the image with the word sugar. Lesson learned on my part as well )

Top does not seal well but glass part is nice.
