I found that these are listed by some as a "pickle plate" - and I really love it! I can heat up something good in a ramekin - from creme brule or custard - to bread pudding or even green beans left over from a too large can for one - and place a slice of meatloaf at the other side - or use the whole plate for gravy plus a biscuit and a patty of sausage - or a cut of chicken fried steak - with mash potatoes and gravy - perfect size and "pretty" and the decorative rim is higher than a plate - but overall - the platter is "small" - but perfect for one person. I bought two! If I had a large family - I'd get one and a half per person - per day - and run the dish washer at the end of the day so the next day they would be available for use! I have also been using an oven safe cordon bleu small container to heat up green beans or peas or other things in the oven - and placing them on a trivet or potholder on the dinner table - really looks great together..
