Beautiful set!! The pieces came safely packed and there were no issues with breakage or flaws. The color is a beautiful, dark red. It's not overly dark or bright - exactly as pictured. It definitely has the texture of a fine china or porcelain. I also like the bit of gold, which can easily be highlighted at holiday time, but is also understated enough to use anytime of year.
