The lamp is beautiful and arrived packaged very well. The body of the lamp is open at the bottom. The shade is not what I expected. It is a high quality shade, and it is a very pretty light colored shade when not illuminated. However, it a hardbacked shade with a gold colored lining, which makes the light dim and the shade orange-y when it is illuminated. I'll be very happy with the purchase once I find a new shade.
