This is heavy and it is quite tall. It's "okay" in that it fits around a 36" cooktop (just barely), but you really have to be careful with this thing. The sheet metal is indeed stainless steel, but the sharp edges have rubber cushions over them to keep you from cutting yourself. Problem is, these can slip off easily. I wish they were glued. (I supposed I can do that.) Also, I wish this were 2/3 as tall. I got this for an island cooktop, where there is bar seating beyond the back of my cook top. My husband likes to sit at the bar and watch me cook, but I needed a splash guard to keep him (and our dining area) from getting splattered. But now, my husband cannot watch me cook because this is too tall. It WORKS, however, so I'm going to keep it for times when I'm doing a lot of sauteing, but it's not what I was hoping for.
