San Juan Lantern - noir

This sturdy 30" / 26.8 lb. Lantern by Canora Grey is made of hand-forged iron with a flat black finish and is designed for indoor or outdoor use. Each lantern is fitted with a hinged roof and door for easy access, with a perforated bottom for proper air circulation. This will be a very versatile decor piece. Use it on top of a mantle or in or in front of a hearth. You could put your favorite Christmas ornaments, one or more candles, or even a great terrarium. Without its glass inserts it would be a cool obelisk for climbing plants. It would look great with your patio set or in your front doorway area. It is iron so it may rust outdoors. It has a perforated bottom so it won't hold water. You can give it a couple coats of flat black rustoleum and place it in our front landscape or porch this spring. This lantern is beautiful. It is strong and sturdy and weighs more than 26 pounds. It is hand forged which requires a great deal of precision by the artist. We put a bottle of wine, a wine glass and a rose candle in it as a conversational piece but a simple candle or plant would also look great. Highly recommend this lantern.

The lantern is beautiful. It is sturdy and heavy with a true matte black color. There was no assembly required except for placing the glass on each side. It was packaged very well and the glass was boxed separately for shipping so it came in with no problems. The reason for the 4 stars is simply the cost. I do feel that it is over priced. Though the quality is there I feel there are probably some lanterns out there that are comparable in quality but lower in cost. I am happy with this lantern though and intend to keep it.

This is a very nice lantern. I have 2 of the large ones -- and it is large. Be sure to watch the measurements. It's heavy, well built, and quality made. There were no instructions, and at first I had difficulty putting the glass in, but found the top opens by a latch and the glass can be easily installed. The top and bottom are both vented. I plan to move them around, and place greenery in at least one of them. Am using one in the bathroom, temporarily! Would love to have one on the roofed deck, but am concerned it might rust. They are hand forged, and this is probably why they are so expensive. I feel, however, that you could get a similar look for a better price.

The lantern came in a huge box and was well packed. The glass panels came in bubble wrap inside the smaller box, and none were broken. So that was great! The glass is not labeled as tempered glass, however the edges are very smooth as though it may actually be tempered glass. Unfortunately, on the door the glass isnt quite large enough and so there is a gap in the glass on the door. I love that the lantern has vent holes at the top and on the bottom. It is a bit annoying that the latch to lock the lid easily falls into the lantern. You have to make sure to hold the lock as you shut the lid. (A very minor nuisance!) The lantern is large (its next to the fireplace for scale in the picture) and appears to be well made, but I have a hard time justifying the sticker price.
