It is a beautiful tray. The first one I received had a scratch, but when I called, Wayfair quickly arranged to take it back and send me another one. The surface of the tray isn't entirely smooth. It's lightly textured. The first product picture is blurry, so that's not apparent. The second product photo with the two trays shows the surface more clearly.
