George Washington 1775 par Samuel King

"George Washington (1775)" by Samuel King is one of the earliest painted portraits of George Washington, created shortly after Washington was appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army during the American Revolution. Painted in 1775, the portrait depicts Washington in his blue and buff Continental Army uniform, projecting confidence, dignity, and determination at the outset of the struggle for independence. Unlike the more idealized presidential portraits produced later in his life, King's likeness presents Washington as a military leader facing the immense challenges of organizing an inexperienced army. The painting is valued both as an important historical record and as an authentic contemporary image of the man who would become the nation's first president, capturing the resolve and leadership that defined the opening years of the Revolutionary War.
