It is not silent, and it is ticking. The so-called hooks were not attached to the wooden frame in the back, and there was no hardware included to facilitate attachment. The 1.5 V battery included showed 1.57 V on the volt meter, barely enough for the clock to function. Other than that, the product is as it looks in the picture. For the price charged I was expecting more. If the rest of the so-called silent clocks sound the same, then the product description is false.
