This little piece is *suuuper* cute. I know it’s intended to be used as a child’s piggy bank, but I just thought it would look cute as a little objet d’art in my bathroom (which has bit of a funky, modern, galaxy, nebula, mermaid, space-vampire, theme LOL in tones of blue, purple, and pink). So if you were thinking of using it that way too, I don’t feel the coin slot is terribly noticeable- it passes as just a mermaid tail. It took a while for me to find the right place for it because it was a little bigger than I thought (which is entirely my fault, always read the dimensions- which are 9 34” H [at its highest point, tail tip] x 4 38” W [base] or 6 14” W [at its widest point, tail fins] x 3 116” D [at it’s deepest point, base]). But I think she’s finally found her home on the little bathroom windowsill ) I also couldn’t tell from the pictures that the color of the ceramic part (under the sequin scales) has an ombré effect, fading from the color it appeared to be throughout (a sort of pale turquoise blue, almost mint green) fading slowly into white at the base. But- I ain’t mad at it. She cute. And the ombré doesn’t really show until until about halfway down (where the coin slot is) so most of it is covered by the sequin scales anyway, it’s barely noticeable. And the “scales” (sequins) have a nice iridescent hue to them that can range from pink to light turquoise depending on how the light reflects on it, with an evvver so slight tinge of golden yellow (only in direct, bright light, and not very much at all, just an unfortunate collateral damage of iridescence that I’ve come to accept having purchased many iridescentoil slickchameleonNeo Chrome [whatever you want to call that effectcolor] colored things- can’t have “rainbowy” without a little yellow, it would seem). Yes, as the product photos in the Wayfair ad try to show, you *can* also flip the sequins up to reveal a plain white color underneath [but who would want to ) ]. Full disclosure they don’t flip very effectively, because some of the sequins at the bottom and along the edge are stuck in their downward facingiridescent position, because they appear to be glued to the bank- or ceramic mermaid tail sculpture, as I like to think of it ) But that was definitely not a deal breaker for me. And a kid who enjoys the feel of flipping sequins would probably enjoy it all the same, imperfections aside. I guess I’m just including that little tid bit in case someone thought they liked the piece- except for those darn iridescent sequins (LOL) and might buy it thinking they could solve that problem by flipping them all to their white side. Nah, brah. That would no workie. All in all, I very much enjoy this piece and I would recommend it. (PS picture of Artwork [by the fabulous Erin Eisenberg] is solely to give a frame of reference for how the mermaid tail piggy bank fit into my wild “theme.” LOL Sorry if it’s confusing (but hopefully it helps).
