These are NOT bookends! They are decorative brackets that have no weight to them. They have a slot for a nail. Just a ridiculous waste of money. They do not hold books in place. And I'm pretty positive it is not the intent. Each bracket weighs a half pound. I am going to buy a glass shelf and use them as shelf brackets, which I believe they are. They are also distressed gray....Not black at all....
