I bought a pair of these lamps and I really love them. The porcelain is smooth without flaws. The hand-painting is detailed and fairly crisp. The bird motif shows up on two sides, but all four sides are slightly different, mostly due to positioning. I think a template was probably used for the majority of the work with some hand-detailing added. No, it's not an heirloom work of art, but for the price, it is VERY nice. The white area ("slip") is not a bright white, but still "clean" and non-yellowed. The blue is bright. The shade is off white, very pale ecru, no yellow undertones. Shade appears to be a poly material mimicking shantung silk and doing it VERY well. The shade and harp are sized appropriately to the lamp and cover / come even with the base of the throat. Heavy crystal base. Uses three-way bulb. Substantial well-made lamp. As the porcelain is an import, be prepared to scrub it up with a little soap. You think that would knock off a star, but no. Chinese porcelain can show up grubby.
