This stays off in the morning and then turns on at night as it has a solar sensor. I have had it for about 2 months now and can confirm is it the best thing ever. Stays on the whole night and is bright enough to illuminate the entire backyard while being too bright or not bright enough. Extremely easy to install by following the directions.
