With a 9 foot ceiling in our dining room, having rods of different lengths gave us the flexibility to get the fixture to the best height over the dining table. A great sleek modern alternative to using chains.

This worked for what we needed. Thankfully we had an electrician that was able to think outside the box and make it work with our existing light fixture, because I did not realize the diameter of the extension was different than our existing fixture, and I was not able to find that info from the original manufacturer.
