Update: Wayfair did send us replacement parts, in the form of another complete--although clearly used--bench kit! We were able to put together one complete, undamaged bench which is true to the product photos. It's sturdy, stable, and will probably hold up reasonably well if not abused. The downside, and the reason for staying at a 3 star rating, is the assembly process, particularly the very inadequate supplied tools. While attaching the back and seat slats to the metal end pieces was straightforward, what the product listing doesn't say is that there are 17 wood screws that need to be installed with NO pilot holes and 16 nut/bolt/washer assemblies that need to be tightened quite tight to make the bench stable. With the tiny supplied "screwdriver" (I put that in quotes because it's not at all a real screwdriver) and the minimal "wrench" (again, not a real tool), it would take hours, and probably some very sore fingers, to install the screws and tighten the bolts by hand. We have real tools--a socket set and powered driver--that made assembly manageable. But without those, assembly would have been slow and likely painful. Overall ratings: finished product: 4 stars (it's fine, but very low to the ground for anyone tall); materials: 2 stars for inconsistent quality; assembly: 1 star for the very inadequate "tools". Update 2: we decided to try to clean off the melted-on styrofoam to see how much damage it would cause. Used adhesive cleaner containing xylene and acetone, which did completely remove the styrofoam... and some of the paint. We repainted with some generic spray paint from the big box store and then assembled the second bench. Same assembly criticisms as before, but at least we have two finished benches after all the extra time and effort. Original review: The metal end pieces both arrived with many, many areas where the styrofoam packing is stuck to the painted metal surfaces, leaving a white residue that won't come off with rubbing or with isopropyl alcohol. I don't want to use a stronger solvent like acetone, which will most likely damage the paint. Based on the condition of the packaging, it also appears that we did not receive a new product. Wayfair is promising to send us replacement end pieces, so we may change our rating of the end product... but not our 2 star rating of the product as it left the manufacturer.
