Plateau à charbon 2 brûleurs Charbroil

I finally put Gas2Coal 2 burner tray in my commercial series grill to cook a New York strip sirloin tonight. Following instructions I laid briquettes around each side of the left hand burner but none around the right side of the grill . I did turn on both burners, waited 15 minutes per instructions and opened the lid with a plan to follow the 5 minutes instructions. When I opened the lid there was hardly any noticeable ash on just a very few briquettes. I relit both burners and waited and waited. I finally put my steak on to have it cook very, very slowly. My wife was preparing side dishes so was not happy with coordinating her efforts. The left side eventually became ash, the right side I guess I can use again because they never ignited. What am I doing wrong?

The 2 Burner Charcoal Tray worked well, and we were very happy to have the flavor that you can only get when using charcoal. Unfortunately, we were only able to use the 2 Burner grill once. When I tried to use the grill for the 2nd time, I noticed a hissing sound and the smell of propane. I tried several times to correct the issue, I even tried changing propone tanks before realizing that there was a leak in the gauge hose. Regrettably, I returned the grill, and now I have a grill cover and charcoal insert for a grill I don't own anymore.
