a work of art that functions as a table
this piece is such a stand alone beauty that i hate to put bar stools with it, (but i will, at least sometimes). to say that it is sculptural is an understatement. the description says hand forged, which i believe is incorrect. it is, rather, cast in a mold. this is perhaps done by hand, as well as the minimal finishing. it looks like a one of a kind hand cast custom item. the raw aluminum, showing slight irregularities where air bubbles kept the metal from completely filling the mold, provides a surface richness and complexity that would be lost with over zealous finishing and polishing. the direct impact of the metal itself makes a bold statement within the confines of a refined and elegant shape. the manufacturers wisely refrained from adding any surface embellishment or color, no paint or powdercoat to detract from its elemental beauty. you just don't see objects like this outside the realm of fine art.
it looks like the picture only much better. a tap to any part produces a resounding chime. and a final note that is just so cool--it comes in four parts that screw together like a silver candlestick. that is the total of the assembly--no tools, just four parts made to fit together precisely and look like a single piece. love it!.
