Mounting the pole in the mount was straightforward, and everything assembled smoothly as planned. The hardware provided was used to attach to an 8 x 8 cedar column. I initially thought the screws would be sufficient to penetrate the wood without issue, but all four stripped while installing the mount. I should have drilled a pilot hole, but since cedar is a soft wood, I assumed the screws could handle it. Eventually, I replaced the screws with decking screws, which worked perfectly fine.
