Balance scolaire precision

Great for students to independently measure weights and shapes. Everything conveniently fits together and weights store in the convenient drawer. Must have for any math center.

We are a homeschooling family and were looking for the right balance to use with our preschoolers. Most of the reviews we read for balances geared toward preschoolers stated that those balances were highly inaccurate, more a toy than a real tool. I didn't want to have to buy a preschool balance only to buy another one for older children sometime in the future. So, I widened my search to balances for older children that might still be appropriate. This is perfect! The buckets can hold either solids or liquids. It was simple enough for my 3 yo to use, yet its accuracy to within .5 of a gram and its zero adjustment knob mean that we can use it for years to come. My 5 yo appreciates the damping button that prevents the pans from rocking during a measurement because he doesn't have to wait as long for the pans to stop swinging. It came with a 10-piece gram set. Perhaps these are responsible for the high age range marked on the product. They are very small. However, I have no problem letting the kids use them with my supervision. We just store them separately from the balance so that they are not a choking hazard at other times. The storage provided on the balance is a very nice feature though. The only reason I give this 4 rather than 5 stars is because the calibration slider moves a bit too easily. It tends to move around at times if the kids are rough with the balance. I wish it had little notches to settle into. However, the smooth sliding is probably intended to provide unlimited calibration and I may appreciate that feature more in the future. The Precision School Balance would have been great except that it came missing pieces including the weights and one of the grey boxes.
