Table basse Epes

This is a gorgeous coffee table. Beautiful marble top and wood base and legs which are painted ivory. The design on the base is gorgeous. It is a large coffee table and heavy. You need two people need to assemble and arrange. Highly recommend.

This coffee table was very easy to assemble, I just needed to unbox and attach each leg. I was injured during unboxing because there were 2 staples sticking out on the underside of the tabletop. The hardware included a little wrench for the hex bolts, but my arthritis was having none of that. Fortunately, the bolts were also philips head and my drill had them all bolted inside 10 minutes. Each bolt had a locking and a flat washer, so it is very sturdy and stable, not a wobble on any corner. The specs indicated the top is a grey wash marble, but the one I received is more beige and taupe, but it is still a cool toned piece so it works in my newly decorated living room, just not as much contrast as I expected. The base is painted a creamy off white with pearl sheen, with a slightly distressed finish. According to the specs, the base is manufactured wood. I cannot tell if that is accurate. The base of the matching end table that I received was evidently made from resin, according to the specs, but I am not sure about that either. Neither table base seems cheap or shoddy - in fact they are substantial and sturdy enough to support the weight of the marble - and the carving details seem well done. The marble is not a solid slab, but is composed of smaller bricks that are polished to a seamless, mirror shine. The curved ogee edge is a honed finish, where each brick is more delineated - that may have cleaning implications, with dust more likely to get trapped in the small spaces. There are two distinct varieties of marble bricks - one is darker with more veining and the other is lighter and more solid, less crystalline. That would be fine, but they are not interspersed. Unfortunately, they grouped the lighter ones in two rows on one side of the middle and along part of one edge. The two varieties are in stark contrast so it looks very unbalanced. The lighter marble stripe isnt even centered, where it might appear intentional. Ive posted one pic with an outline of the light bricks and the same pic unmarked as well as a close up of the two types. The matching end table also had this issue, so this was not just an isolated fluke in production. I am sure if the lighter bricks were spread out, it would not look as odd. In this price range, you expect perfection, with premium materials and exceptional workmanship. In this case, you should expect solid wood and a uniform marble appearance, preferably with the darker, more veined bricks as they hardly appear to be separate bricks. A solid slab would have been even better. This is what keeps this product from receiving a perfect review. I took one star for the manufactured wood, per the specs, and another for the poor marble workmanship. Such a beautiful table! I love how this table transforms our living room into a serene and sophisticated sanctuary. It goes surprisingly well with the beige/ ivory color scheme as well as the pastel tones. We are absolutely in love the way how the living room looks after the table have arrived. Very substantial yet very sophisticated at the same time.
