This bookshelf is very heavily grained engineered wood. It had an oil on it that was smelly and greasy. Construction was difficult for such a small piece. The finished product has a plethora of exposed metal screw nuts (which can be covered with decals). Quite sturdy once constructed, and measurements were correct.

The description said the shelves were solid wood. However, the shelves are actually engineered wood instead. The quality isn't bad, but I wish the hardware was less visible.

The shelves are *not* real wood, they're engineered wood. Pro Tip: if the description shows the material as "Wood" but does not state what kind of wood it is, then it's engineered/particle board. Also the manufacturer added a "wood" scent to the varnish on the boards so the whole thing reeks of a car air freshener. Hopefully it will off-gas and this odor will disappear but right now it's pretty foul. I feel like the ad for this item was deceptive on their website, but I can't send this back without Wayfair charging me shipping. Disappointing and I won't be getting anything from them again, but those are the chances you take when you buy cheap stuff online.

Disappointed. This bookcase is not solid wood. Only keeping because it’s going into a closet for storage.
