These are not your average place mats, which explains the higher cost. I bought them because I have a glass top end table and the area between the glass and the wood was getting damaged. I wanted something water proof, and these are certainly that. They have a nice leather smell, probably from the bottom part. Amazingly, they fit the area I needed to protect perfectly. I had checked the dimensions and they were right on. Very happy I purchased them. We chose the black color because we like black, but brown would have matched the wood. Pros: Attractive, water proof, love the leather smell Cons: None that I can see

Product is very fine and it works well. product is also durable.
