It turns out that to insert the AA batteries, one must undo the tiny screw on the bottom. Luckily, my very kind next door neighbor is quite handy and had a super Phillips. The LED train station scene lit up very brightly right away and the train starting rolling down the tracks. My neighbor discovered an additional feature where a Christmas song plays. HURRAY! What a great way to start the Christmas season on this Thanksgiving Day! Very beautiful!
