Super cheap materials. Price is so low, I guess that's what I should expect. The 8-shelf unit's shelves are too close together - You can't even fit books on the shelves. A normal novel is about 1" taller than the space between the shelves. The cardboard back is super-flimsy - I actually went and bought 2 big melamine boards and cut them down to create a solid back, which also let me wall-mount the unit, drilling through the new melamine backers through drywall into studs. I got the whole thing installed, caulked the corners and caulked over my wood screws I had used to mount it and then I had this thought... "the shelves are pretty close together. Will books fit?" - so disappointed to see that books don't fit. I didn't mind the cheap and flimsy because I came up with a solution for that. I guess I'm going to dismount this from my kid's wall and try to use it in the garage or something for random garage storage, and I'll look to buy a bookshelf that is better quality materials and is designed with the goal of storing books in mind.

it's a fine bookshelf unit. The dividing bar in the middle means the particle board shelves won't bow from the weight of the books. I put a 2x2 toe kick under it so the bottom shelf doesn't sit directly on the floor.

No missing parts or screws, but the top board was damaged in one area when we pulled it out of the box. The paint on the boards is really thin. When I peeled the small stickers on each board, it took a spot of paint with it. The back of the shelf feels a little loose so we might add a few more nails to secure it. It was okay to put together, and overall it still works as a shelf, but I’m disappointed in how cheap it feels. If seeing the screws on the outside bothers you, be warned—this bookshelf has that.

Perfect shelf height for my DVDs! I do wish the back board was more sturdy, but cant complain too much with the cost
