I ordered a kitchen island from Birch Lane (owned by Wayfair). The island itself arrived in great condition and I really like it, but the delivery experience was incredibly frustrating. My first delivery was botched due to an error by the delivery team. They claimed the island would not fit through my front door and refused to deliver it. However, when the second delivery team arrived for the rescheduled delivery, the island went right through the front door without any issue. Since the initial failed delivery, I called customer service at least eight times trying to resolve the situation. Every representative I spoke with was polite and helpful, and they repeatedly submitted requests to the delivery team to accommodate weekend delivery. Unfortunately, the delivery team continually overrode those requests and rescheduled the delivery for weekdays without my consent. Because they refused to accommodate the weekend delivery that had been promised multiple times, I ultimately had to take two days of PTO from work just to receive this island. To make matters even more confusing, after the island was finally delivered, the delivery team contacted me twice more saying they were scheduled to deliver it that day — despite the fact that it had already been delivered. I do want to note that the customer service team was consistently professional and clearly felt bad about the situation. They ultimately issued me a partial refund due to the repeated delivery issues and the inconvenience caused. However, the delivery process itself was extremely disorganized and stressful. At this point, the issue is not just the delay — it’s the lack of coordination, follow-through, and accountability between the delivery team and customer service. Based on this experience, I would strongly caution others before ordering large furniture items. Unless you are prepared for a potentially stressful and time-consuming process, I would reconsider. A company at this scale should have far better communication and coordination between customer service and delivery teams, and should stand behind the commitments its representatives make to customers.
