I bought this chair specifically to aid in my recovery following a L4/L5 microdiscectomy on July 10th. It arrived on July 6th, and because I was preparing for spinal surgery, I had to wait for my mother to arrive in town to assemble it for me.
Unfortunately, the quality control on this chair is completely unacceptable. The factory-installed female brackets on the backrest were mounted too low, angled incorrectly, and spaced too far apart. Because the backrest physically bottoms out against the chair frame before reaching the locking mechanism, the pieces cannot align, and it is impossible to get the required "audible click" to lock the seat back into place.
I had to use the chair anyway out of sheer medical necessity since I am actively recovering from back surgery and needed a place to rest. However, this morning, while using the "home" button to transition to a sitting position, the backrest completely slipped and fell off one of the brackets. A sudden mechanical drop like this is a major safety hazard, particularly for someone healing from a major spinal procedure. Any product sold should be delivered correctly and fully functional. At a price point of approximately $500, customers should absolutely expect a product that fits together properly out of the box without structural defects. Wayfair needs to fix their manufacturing standards. It is shameful to send out a defective product that structurally fails on a customer.
