Side of bed is BLACK unfinished ..hideous

Honestly, this bed frame is okay. It is a unique design which is why I bought it, but it is not very well constructed, was a pain to put together, and was even missing screw holes and other construction errors. Also, it really needs to be pushed up against the wall on both the top of the bed and the long side of the bed without the desk. This is because it is not completely upholstered on those sides. At the end of the day, I would not buy it at the price, but if you're into the design just consider those details.
