I bought this product because I wanted to help a friend make it appear that their 65” TV was mounted on the wall, but they wanted to minimize the amount of drilling and damage to the plaster wall in their old, historic-district house. This product is perfect. The TV attaches to the stand/mount easily and it stands up on its own. The instructions strongly suggest securing to a wall with a single screw for best safety and stability, so we did that and it is rock solid and looks fantastic. We painted the center column to match the wall and it virtually disappears. We ran the power and HDMI cables behind the center column so there are no ugly wires showing. My friend and I could not be more happy with the product. Now that I have seen and used the stand, they are planning to buy another one for use in their daughters dorm room, on a smaller TV, as a great space saver without damaging the wall. It will be sandwiched between the bed and the wall and they won't use the screw. Since they have seen how easy it was for me to assemble and install, they are confident they can tackle that project without me (which is a bonus for me).

The answers on the item page make it seem like this thing can stand on its own. It HAS to lean on a wall, or it will fall over. It’s also highly recommended in the manual to secure it to the wall. I definitely agree with this. Don’t put. 65” or bigger on this without securing it to the wall. A hyper kid could easily knock this over. The metal is corroding already, so some of the paint is chipping. The install parts bag came damaged. Definitely needs better protection during shipping. But as a TV mount, this is so much easier than having to put a brace in the wall. Or, if you’re in the same situation as me, when the optimal place for the tv doesn’t work because of a power drop.
