The actual workable space is 31 in. by 18in. Not 31 1/2 by 18 1/2. It is easy to raise. However, there is only one height. You can not stop at any point along the way. It is either all the way up or all the way down. I bought this particular model/brand because of the easy raise feature and the purported length (to get the length they listed, you have to include the beveled edges. Space you cannot use. I mean, really?! Let's get honest here. The 18 inches is not enough for my monitor, keyboarad and any papers. As you can see from the photos. I sure hope this is a helpful review for others and saves you time, money, and disappointment. I had been looking forward to this addition to my workspace, but it simply will not work.
