I am very pleased with this case. It is tall and substantial, holds a lot of DVD and old VCR tapes. There is a glass panel to sit on top of the piece to protect it, but unlike some of these Chinese cabinets this piece of glass just rests on top of the whole piece (there is no raised frame that holds the glass in the center of the top).
The pieces of mother of pearl are large and raised. The glass that protects the top is a good idea, I was dusting it right after I got it and the dust cloth caught beneath a raised flower & broke off the tip of the petal. It does not show, but you need to be careful when dusting because some of the pieces are raised at the edges instead of completely solid to the piece of the furniture.
The mother of pearl flowers and leafy vines are beautiful, painted in shades of green, yellow, pink and lavender. The shells on the top of my cabinet have a few areas of tan and gold as well, and the birds are painted either brown or blue. The cabinet I have is much more colorful than the white or pale pastel shells against black in the picture - but it is beautiful and looks like a quality piece of furniture. It does not look cheap at all but if you strictly want a black & white piece as pictured this might not be for you. It is possible since it is hand painted that no 2 are alike.
There is a subtle framing of gold at the edges of the cabinet. Narrow lines of gold around the doors & side panels and a scroll work of gold and white around the top edges of the piece.
It is solid and well made. It was packaged very carefully - no damage at all. I ordered a beautiful cabinet from ebay that had been badly packaged and arrived in a wet moldy outer box. This one was perfect and did not have a scratch on it. You really do need to be careful of who you buy from and I wish I had ordered from Wayfair from the start.
