They do exactly what they are supposed to do. I have a cantilever umbrella, so I needed something heavy enough to keep it from tipping over. I wouldn't trust it to be open in high winds without some added weight on the back end, but I've tried to push on it a little just to test it out and it seems to do just fine. They are easy to fill with water and the built-in handle on the underside makes them easy to carry when I'm cleaning the patio or moving the umbrella.
