One of the biggest reasons I chose this dog ramp and stairs is that it has a reversible design, allowing you to use it as either a ramp or a set of stairs depending on your dogs needs. After using it with my 100-pound dog, I can honestly say Im very impressed with the overall quality. The frame is made of metal, which makes it feel incredibly sturdy and gives me confidence that it can safely support a large dog without wobbling or feeling unstable. That was a huge selling point for me since my dog has mobility issues, and I wanted something that felt secure.
The ramp and stair treads are made from what appears to be a thick plywood material. While it isnt hardwood, it still feels very solid and durable. The craftsmanship is much better than I expected, and nothing about it feels flimsy. My dog didnt care much for the ramp side, though. Even though it has strips to help prevent slipping, he seemed uncomfortable using it. I think thats more related to his mobility problems than the product itself, as he simply seems more confident taking steps than walking up an incline.
Once I flipped it over to the stair configuration, he adapted much more quickly. Hes still a little hesitant coming down the stairs, but I think thats just because its a new experience and hell gain confidence with more practice. The stairs provide much better footing for him, and I can already tell he prefers them over the ramp.
I do have a couple of suggestions for improvement. First, I wish the overall width was a little greater. For larger breeds, an extra few inches of width would make the stairs and ramp feel even more comfortable and secure. The second concern is the small gap between the metal frame and the wooden stair treads. The first few times my dog tried to use it, he hesitated and even jumped off once because of that opening. I was worried his foot could slip into the gap. Fortunately, with supervision and a little encouragement, he quickly learned where to place his feet, but I still think its a design detail that could be improved.
Overall, I think this is an excellent product, especially for owners of medium to large dogs. The sturdy metal construction, solid wooden treads, and ability to switch between a ramp and stairs make it extremely versatile. While there are a couple of minor design changes Id like to see, they dont outweigh the overall quality. If youre looking for a durable mobility aid that inspires confidence for both you and your dog, I would definitely recommend giving this one a try.
