Safety issue for grown cats. Our healthy and fit 7 year old fell backwards trying to get from the top shelf. Might be fine for kittens, but the design isn't safe for a 12 pound boy. The large shelf in middle only has about 3" for a cat to try and climb down. This is what caused the fall on his back and head. Jumping up to top shelf isn't easy from large middle shelf because of such a same space about 3" to jump up. Did a little redesign on the cat tree so it works safely and perfectly for our cat. I was able to remove carpet from top shelf, remove screws from top shelf and push the top shelf back as far a possible giving about 9" difference between top shelf and middle shelf. Easy now for jumping up or down. Cat loves this sturdy and heavy tree now. Easy to just push top shelf back, level it, and screw to post then reapply carpet to top shelf. Looks like new, but now works and safely.

I’ve bought 4 of these. My kitties LOVE these trees and there is always NO VACANCY on them. Every part is used and loved. So glad it was assembled as my 6 thumbs couldn’t do it! Won’t be long before it’s time to order again but will need 3 more as the crew grew.
