At first, as I started to put this together, I thought I was going to give it a much higher review. I love the looks, the functionality, and the overall concept. But as I was assembling, I figured out multiple flaws, by then it was too late to return.
First - talk about functionality for the purpose. I have a 10-month old German Shepherd. He does love this, I removed the partition, and he gets an extra long bedroom. However, as I look at the construction, there are critical flaws. First, the latches will never hold a dog that wants to get out. they are far to flimsy. The bars are good, but then just some flimsy slide locks that are screwed into particle board. So if you have an escape artist, DON'T DO IT! Second, there is no "roof" to the crate portion. The top of the crate is the drawers, so your dog could 1. push the drawers out or 2. chew them to pieces. Third, the back of the piece is also bars. If you have this pushed up against a wall under a TV as shown in this picture, your dog could easily chew on the plugs behind it. I solved this by putting a screen on the back, but it's definitely a hazard. So all in all if you have a dog who is good in a crate and doesn't chew up things, it's OK. If you have a puppy, escape artist, or chewer, I do NOT recommend.
Next, the quality of the furniture. Again, I love the look, but there were significant problems.
1. My kit was supposed to come with an N board, and an N1 board. According to the labels, it did. But the pieces were mis-labeled, so the holes were all backwards. I was able to solve by drilling my own pilot holes, but now the front view has a pre-drilled hole in front. (Wayfair is sending a new piece, if it bothers me enough to take apart and replace.....)
2. They didn't send enough hardware for a few pieces. I was able to use screws I had on hand, but I was short one cam-lock for a drawer. I made do with what I had.
3. Instructions are significantly wrong in several places. It was showing I needed to put screws where there weren't places for screws, it was telling me to put wooden dowels on the drawer fronts, but the holes were for cam locks, and it had the drawer assembly backwards, so I put it all together to find out the drawer rails were on backwards. Easy enough to fix, but several parts of the assembly I had to disassemble and put it together correctly, causing me an extra couple of hours of work.
4. This massively bothers me, and I didn't realize until I put it together. The top is 2 pieces of wood. THE GRAIN IS IN OPPOSITE DIRECTIONS!! So the left side has the wood grain lengthwise, and the right side is widthwise. ugh...... if you have any level of OCD, this will drive you crazy
All in all, it will work, it's in my bedroom, not the main room, so i'm not going to stress too bad about aesthetics, but I cannot recommend this piece, and I absolutely cannot say it's anywhere near worth the cost.. Stacey. Johnsburg, IL. Sun Jul 12 2026
