Received this a week ago after waiting nearly 2 weeks for shipping. So far, the engineering has been OK. No issues with the design. The manufacturing quality is NOT OK. I spent tonight assembling the drawers and installing the bits into the cabinets.
Four observations
1) Two of the drawers are obviously repackaged. The backside of one drawer fronts is scratched, reaffirming my suspicions. I can get over this.
2) The lack of pre-drilled holes for the drawer latch mechanisms on the underside for the gliders is extremely disappointing. Furthermore, the instructions fail to suggest these should be pre-drilled. Leaving this to the customer to do is unsatisfactory for a unit at this cost.
3) The cam locker holes are insufficiently drilled to the correct depth. Most of them are not flush or subsurface to their cabinet face.
4) After getting over 3. I started assembling the frame units. I hammered in the threaded feet inserts into the bottom of the frame per the instructions just to find one of them penetrating the opposite side face (inside base of the closet) and bulging the cabinet surface. Another indicator of poor manufacturing and QC.
Edit - installed the 2nd frame and the same issues with the threaded feet.
5) The frame holes on one of the units wasnt drilled out enough, causing the screws to bottom out. Wrecked one of the holes. Had to use a different hole set and manually drill out the holes.
I am now halfway done assembling this closet system and am very disappointed with the quality. I would send it back immediately if it was realistic to disassemble and repackage them into the half dozen boxes they came in.
I wish I had waited for the John Louis 6 drawer unit to come back in stock after waiting 6 weeks. I probably would have gotten a better quality unit for 300 LESS! But I settled on this unit after running out of time putting a nursery together in time.
I have 2.5k of ClosetMaid units in my master closet and assumed this unit would meet the quality observed from those units. It does not!
I may just trash this, eat the cost and buy the John Louis unit. I dont think I could buy (or recommend) another wood engineered product from ClosetMaid after this experience.
