The shelves are solid wood, but not a single piece of solid wood. Rather, each shelf in the shelf set I received has two pieces of wood glued together. They do look nice, but I probably would not have purchased them if the description reflected this. Not sure how they will perform in dry winter air. Fingers crossed.

Gorgeous wood, but anchor hardware was cheap and we had to replace it with our own after a little frustration with hanging. Overall, beautiful project complete.
