Actual wood, maybe not the prettiest grain or highest quality, but wood. Mine arrived with damage to the corner of one drawer. I added wood glue and pressed the parts together. I also added some glue to a few other areas just in case, and glued on a little cardboard to the back to prevent anything from falling out. I don't like the exposed screw-heads, and may eventually use some wood filler to hide them. BUT it really helped get my small desk reorganized as I had to finally upgrade my computer monitor and no one makes small ones anymore! So, if you have a small desk, it is very useful.
