I purchased both the "passage" and the "privacy" versions of this style. We kept the passage ones: for the price and finish they give a nice, classic, look that mixes well with other styles, and are stupid-easy to install.
The privacy ones we returned immediatley. They had the same easy install, but the thumb-turn lock piece felt really plastic-y and did not firmly lock/ unlock. IF you bumped the lock when shifting to turn the handle, or only moved the thumb-turn 85 degrees instead of a full 90 degrees; it would still be locked! It didn't click or slide into place in anyway that let you know it was "unlocked" they way a more expensive thumb-turn would. So, it was easy to anticipate several "I unlocked it but the door is still locked! freak-outs from kids "locked" in the bathroom. We replaced them with a push-button style ("Georgian") from Schlage that I got on sale on another site. Those feel heavier and operate much more smoothly. So, you get what you pay for.
Another review mentioned that these are loud- and both styles were loud, but, for passage knobs on hall closets, etc. I really don't mind and they did loosen up a bit over a week- just stick with the passage ones and don't put 'em up outside a baby's room and you'll be happy!
4 Stars for the passage model, 0 for the privacy version.. Heather. Annandale, VA. Tue Jun 23 2020
