I just had this faucet installed a few days ago, so I cannot speak to it's durability or long-term performance. I replaced a 2-handle, 15 year old Rohl, and I didn't want a pull-down or pull-out sprayer. I would have preferred another two handle faucet, but they are not easy to find - and the unique appearance and function of this Kohl Components faucet caught my eye. Unfortunately, Kohl hasn't posted a very good video of this faucet in action, and I couldn't upload one.
I'm not sure why this is advertised as a 'bar sink faucet', because it works perfectly with my standard 33" Kohler kitchen sink.
The faucet is attractive. It fits in well with my rather average kitchen, but it would look great in a more modern or upscale kitchen.
The finish (Vibrant Stainless) matches my other stainless features/appliances. I would say it will match any true 'brushed' look stainless finish... it's 'vibrant', but it's not a shiny, bright finish like chrome or polished nickel. I wish it came in a spot-resistant finish, but it doesn't.
As you can tell in the photos, the faucet articulates independently both at the base and at a joint in the faucet 'body'. This is a handy and unique feature. It adds to the unique look and to the practical functionality of the faucet. It has potential use as a pot filler, but it is centered on my 33" sink, and cannot reach the counter on either side. If it were offset to one side it could reach a pot sitting on a counter (I didn't buy it for this purpose).
The faucet spout can switch from a solid stream to a very gentle, aerated, wider spray with a just a slight turn of the tip of the faucet/aerator. This is handy for washing vegetables or anything delicate. Even though it's only a 1.5 gal/min faucet, the stream is quite adequate. I don't notice any real difference between this faucet and my 15 year old one with regards to that. The aerator is removed by pushing in and turning (like a pill bottle), not by unscrewing it.
The side sprayer works well and is ergonomic. I like the lever on the handle that operates it better than the usual push-in button. The sprayer body is actually metal (as far as I can tell), but for some reason, the escutcheon is plastic. I don't know why Kohler didn't go the extra step on this nice faucet and make that small piece metal as well. The only real complaint I have so far is with the sprayer/escutcheon. When, not 'if', water splashes onto the top of the escutcheon, a drop or two will sneak down between the sprayer handle and the escutcheon and run down the braided hose into the sink cabinet. It's literally a drop or two, but this shouldn't happen. Perhaps the escutcheon should have a bit of a flair at the top where the sprayer handle fits, rather than being completely flat. I don't know.. but I never had that problem with my old faucet sprayer. Until I can find a solution, I'll keep a small container under the sink and the sprayer hose to catch those inevitable drops of water. It's not a deal breaker, but I'm certain Kohler can do better on this simple issue. Hence the reason for 4 rather than 5 stars.
Installation was simple. Connect the water lines, the sprayer hose and that's about it. It did take the plumber and me a minute to figure out how to orient the faucet in the right direction. We both thought the handle/lever would face forward, center of the sink, but it doesn't. It faces the right as you can see in the photos, and that actually works just fine. The installation instructions weren't the best, but any handyman, DIY, or plumber should have no problems with installation, as long as your countertop faucet hole is large enough. That was my concern in my granite countertop, because the old faucet didn't have a 1-5/8" threaded piece like this one that had to go through the hole in the counter. It was just the faucet lines. It was a very close fit with no room to spare, but thankfully it wasn't an issue.
You can get by with very little clearance behind the faucet if you have a backsplash. When you rotate the lever/handle fully towards the wall, it only goes an inch or so in that direction, stopping close to 2" away from the backsplash; it rotates forward, towards you, a couple of inches.
So, on my initial impressions of function, appearance and uniqueness, I give this faucet a solid 5 stars. Only time will tell if mineral deposits, etc., will affect the rotation or the aerator function.
But the sprayer issue drops it to 4 stars. Any bit of water dripping into the sink cabinet is not acceptable. I hope Kohler makes a fix for this. But, even knowing this issue, I would definitely buy this faucet again. If there's an option to update my review later on, I will, if necessary.. Pj2.0. Mississippi. Wed Jul 17 2024
