When this rug gets wet, it smells strongly like urine. We were using a steamer to deep clean. Also not pet friendly if your pets have accidents. I have other full cow hides in the den and they are easier to care for, and withstand cleaning without that terrible urine Oder. One difference between them is the cow hides don’t have backing. Maybe that was the problem. We eventually tossed it, because we couldn’t keep it clean.

This was my first Wayfair purchase, and I’m very happy with the cowhide rug! We needed something light and neutral in color, but also low pile and durable because we have dogs (one of which sheds, a lot!) This rug is exactly like the photos, and blends in nicely with the furniture. You don’t see any dog hair, and it’s easy to vacuum. It’s very durable material. It was a bit stiff for the first couple weeks, but got softer and more pliable as we use it in a somewhat high traffic area of our house. Cowhide gets softer as it’s used. The subtle colors in the rug literally match with anything. We have dark floors now, but soon getting a light bamboo floor, and the floor samples go great with the rug. It’s a very elegant and durable rug! No smell of off gassing either!
