Tapis floral tissé à la main gris anthracite en laine tissé à la main 6x9

Delicate rose clusters scattered across a deep charcoal ground give this hand-woven wool chainstitch rug an enduring floral elegance that draws on a long tradition of European needlework and textile design from Victorian embroidery to the celebrated floral chintzes of 18th century England. The rugs field features coral blush aqua and sage bouquets distributed freely across the field in an all-over pattern the dark ground doing the quiet work of amplifying every soft pastel tone around it. A twisted rope border in ivory and blush frames the composition with a simple yet refined finishing detail that completes the design without competing with it. Worked entirely by hand using the chainstitch flatweave technique on a cotton foundation the rug has the flat tapestry-like surface and fine detail resolution that this construction is known for wearing well over time and lying flat without the bulk of a piled rug."Storey Behind the Art: Chainstitch flatweave is a hand-crafting technique that originated in Kashmir India where it has been practised for several centuries as part of the region's rich textile heritage. Traditionally worked on a burlap or cotton backing stretched over a wooden frame the technique uses a hooked needle called an ""aari"" to pull wool thread through the base fabric in a continuous chain of interlocking loops. Because the design is essentially needle-worked rather than woven on a loom Kashmiri artisans are able to achieve an extraordinary level of detail and colour variation. The finished surface is flat smooth and tapestry-like without the pile height of a knotted rug which gives it a lighter profile that lies close to the floor."
