Turns out this rug is an image of a plaid woven rug printed on a synthetic material that has a sheen. Yes that's right - the brown/black rug is reflecting light. The quality is cheap, it looks awful, 0/10, I'm incredibly mad this can't be returned as the cost was absolutely insane in relation to the quality.
