The rug was packaged very well and it was easy to open. We just sat it in place and rolled it open. There is no smell at all. Some of the top and bottom edge will need to relax to lay completely flat. The rug looks a little bit different in color than the picture. However it is because of the deep shag. The color depends on the direction the shag lays. It is a very nice rug and serves it purpose very well.
