Perfectly neutral. I have been on the hunt for a while for a rug that incorporated gray and gold. This fits perfectly without being too patterned. It is soft without being fluffy. I do not feel the need to put a pad under it. Unrolled nicely with no wrinkles and the corners have laid down nicely after setting a couple books on them.
