I've tried every trick I know to get the hinges on the top cover to work and I just don't see it happening. It seems to be a poor design. The hinges work fine with one or both disconnected, but bind and fight each other with both attached. I am at a loss; the top cover will remain up with the hinges attached or down with them detached. Additionally, the three-tiered shelf on the left side is a quarter inch short on width to hold a record. Why? It is a record player stand, why wouldn't the shelf fit a record? How could a 0.25" gap not be gained somewhere? Do not get this unit. I would return it if it wasn't such a pain. To return something like this, it has to disassemble and boxed it back up. Which is fair I suppose, but how could one predict that a key feature of the unit does not work until assembled?
